On this date at about this time 12 years ago, the mighty Brantford Blast wrapped up what many consider to be one the greatest Allan Cup Tournaments of all-time with a thrilling 3-1 victory over the storied Bentley Generals.
The Brantford vs. Dundas semifinal, played the night before, was the highlight game of the tournament with the huge attendance. With Dundas leading 2-1 in the third period the crowd went ballistic when Brantford's Steven Rice tied it up on a shot from just inside the blue line in the dying seconds of the game.
It seemed like the stars all lined up, providing warm-sunny weather, punctuated by thrilling hockey, thick crowds and a hometown victory. Many of you were there. Great memories under any circumstances but dramatically underscored by what's happening in the world these days.
Look forward to more of the same for April 2021.
